Community Service at Sanskriti
Community Service is an integral part of the Sanskriti. It is part of the Sanskriti School mission to not only impart an education about Indian culture and languages but also the importance of giving back to the community and those in need. We encourage children to participate in all of the community service activities (which is about 2-3 each year). We expect this to be another amazingly successful year of giving!
This year we have identified Vision Builders as an organization to work with to enhance the ideology of giving back. Vision Builders is an organization that carefully selects partners from around the world who are native to and living in their regions and who have already started small humanitarian projects in the fields of health care, children’s education, and job training for women. They are currently supporting the Kutumb Project in the densely populated urban slum in Varanasi, India. Kutumb is meeting the need of homeless children directly by helping kids who have absolutely nothing resembling a childhood to have lives of greater promise and dignity. Kutumb provides homeless children with a home and education.
This year our School will focus on facilitating a relationship between the children of Sanskriti and Kutumb by starting a communication exchange, doing a fundraiser and also putting together supplies that the children in Kutumb can use. On Gandhi Jayanti October 2nd 2016, the children of Sanskriti School wrote letters and made Diwali cards for the children of Kutumb. In January 2017 (on Martin Luther King Day), the children assembled supplies for the children in Kutumb. And finally, during the Mela in June 2016, the children at Sanksriti will organize a fundraiser by running a lemonade, water and popcorn stand to benefit Kutumb.
Thanks to all the enthusiastic teachers and volunteers who continue to create an environment for our children to learn, participate, and stimulate their appreciation and the importance of community service.
