SamVaad - Classical Music Initiative

(Sam = Music, Vaad = Discussion)

 

SamVaad is Sanskriti of NJ's music initiative that was started in 2016 to foster Indian classical music and light classical music genres. The SamVaad initiative aims to encourage local and upcoming classical music artistes and also bring concerts by world-class maestros to the suburban cultural audience in NJ.

Some of the events organized by SamVaad and Sanskriti to date include:

  • Sarod concert with Shri Debajyoti (Tony) Bose accompanied by Shri Amit Chatterji on Tabla;

  • Sangeet Xperience Baithakwith musicologist Dr. Mohan Deshpande;

  • Let's SaReGa- An Indian classical music workshop with Shri Mahesh Kale (of the 'Katyar Kaljat Ghusli' fame);

  • Sureele Sapne- A contemporary Hindi film music concert with Sanjeev and Armeen Ramabhadran;

  • Shaam-e-Ghazal- 2 Ghazal concerts with Shri. Amrish Mishra (disciple of Late Shri Jagjit Singh) accompanied by Aditya Narayan Banerjee on Tabla.

  • Concert with Shri Jay Gandhi (flute), Shri Samarth Nagarkar (vocal) accompanied by Shri Suryaksha Deshpande (Tabla) and Shri Roshan Prabhudesai (Harmonium)

  • Sitaar concert by Josh Feinberg and vocal concert by Shri. Samarth Nagarkar
  • Concert of Brooklyn Raga Massive artists ensemble
  • Concert of upcoming young upcoming musicians, the rising starts of Indian music
  • Sitaar concert by maestro Pt. Radhakrishna, disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar
  • Concert of Shri. Anand Bhate, one of the torch bearers of Kirana Gharana
  • Concert by Pt. Rattan Mohan Sharma, of history of Indian classical music, starting from vedic period, through royal courts till today
  • Concert of Om Guha, a high school student who performed various classical, semi-classical compositions, ghazals, and songs in various regional languages
  • Concert by Shri. Manoj Govindraj, a leading musician from the tri-state area who performed not only classical but also several semi-classical songs and ghazals. He also entertained several of our audience ghazal requests and that was followed by an engaging Q&A session.
  • Conversation with Vidushi Smt. Rajam Shanker on An introduction to Indian Classical Music Therapy. l
Sangeet Prabha’ : We also host early morning music listening session once every 3 weeks on a Saturday at 6.00 am.
