Sanskriti Cricket Club hosted the Leather Ball Cricket Finals on Sunday the 2nd September 2019  at the St Barnabas Turf Field.

With 2 games being played previously poised with both team Aswathama and Team Rudra winning 1 each, Grand final was on the cards.

Team Aswathama Captain Milind Sapre after winning the toss immediately decided to force Team Rudra to bat. Adnan Rangeela and Sunny Khatkate started the innings with a solid foundation with 37 on board but lost 5 quick wickets in succession with Bhavin Dave (3/36) and Anirudha Karmarkar (2/30) making the in road in the Rudra top order reducing them to 42 for 5. A sloid 6th wicket partnership of 84 runs between Sandy Walthati (31) and Rahul Shah (49) brought them back in the game.  At the end with  Captain Raj Rajendran 26 off 35 balls got the team Rudra to a respectable total of 170 in 30 overs. Tijo Chandy  finished for Team Ashwathama as the most economical bowler with 2/19.

Batting second was always going to be tough for team Ashwathama specially  chasing a target and team Rudra having a experienced bowling line up.

Milind Sapre Captain and Bhavin Dave (10) had steady start in the first Power play, with Viral Patel (12) and Suhas Agarwal (15) contributing, There was no substantial partnership as team Rudra increased the grip on the game midway. At the 2nd Powerplay mark team Ashwthama were 64 for 5 needed 107 in their last 14 overs with an average of 7.27, huge task considering the Rudra bowling line up. With reliable Tijo Chandy 4 and hitter Hardik Mhatre 2 gone early it was getting tougher for team Ashwathama. With 7 wickets down walked in Vijay Golamari  the last recognized batsman on the crease with Nilesh Mhatre, the pair kept their cool while making runs at 7 an over. Nilesh Mhatre paced his innings well, hitting 6 sixes, 3 fours and taking only 5 singles in his knock of 53. While Waibhav Tembe 5 and Milind Sapre 4 hitting the winning runs in the final (30th)over it was a Victory well earned by Team Aswathama.  A overall team performance in batting, fielding and bowling department Captain Milind Sapre expressed in his message “ The boys stuck to the basics, had the belief and executed as per plan”.

Vijay Golamari with his 33 of 28 balls and 24 for 1 in his 5 overs spell with a splendid outfield catch earned him the Man of the Match award in the finals of first ever One Day International held by Sanskriti.

Nilesh Mhatre, Executive Committee member of Sanskriti thanked the Township Council specially Mayor Al Anthony and Council man Ed Meinhardt for their continued support in promoting Cricket in Livingston, Jennifer Walker and Ronald Barbella for assigning the St Barnabas Turf field for the One Day International games and all the Sanskriti players for supporting and playing the tournament with good spirit.
